“Exploring the impact of the Cost Of Living Crisis on the Black Community’s Wellbeing in Buckinghamshire”
A recent research initiative, funded by the Workforce Training & Education Directorate at NHS England South East, delves into the effects of the Cost Of Living Crisis (COLC) on the well-being of the black community in Buckinghamshire.
Engaging 30 respondents, the study aimed to uncover personal experiences within the community, shedding light on how the COLC has influenced their financial and mental health.
Key findings highlighted the historical and contextual factors contributing to the black community's challenges, exacerbating disparities compared to their white counterparts. The notion of "Black Tax" emerged, emphasising the lack of a level playing field.
Participants shared encounters with existing services, revealing issues of racial discrimination, stigma, and trust barriers, especially with professionals. The direct impact of the COLC on individual lifestyles was evident, leading to reduced self-care, increased utility costs, and financial strains in supporting families.
Proposed solutions focused on addressing barriers in personal finance, business, career, and life skills, underlining the importance of representation and community involvement in service provision for long-term improvements. The study aims to spark change among policymakers and decision-makers, advocating for tangible enhancements within the community.

We facilitate a culturally appropriate food pantry to support families in response to the cost of living crisis. We appreciate that African and Caribbean foods can be expensive due to exporting costs.
Our food pantry not only ensures that everyone has access to nutritious meals but also a way to support and uplift families during challenging times.
